It’s a colorful, colorful world

Last week I was asked to be a part of a really cool partnership with a brand* promoting some pretty awesome technology. On August 15, the Australian band Strange Talk is releasing a new video on YouTube with links embedded in the video for the items featured so you can directly purchase them with just the click of your mouse.

But the really cool part is that they’re giving away a bunch of the items (while supplies last) to those that click-through, totally free. To RSVP for the video launch, head to facebook.com/strangetalkmusic or check back here for more details.

How cool is that?

I’ll post the link once the video is available to click-through, and I also have some pretty sweet stuff to give away a little bit later:

Here’s a sneak peek of items you can snag through the video (in addition to many others). Closer to the end of the month I’ll be giving these items away. Yes, you read that correctly. I’m going to give away these super cool items, and you could be one of the lucky winners.

Details on the giveaway will be posted a little later this month, after you’ve had a shot to win the items from the Strange Talk video.

(I love these red Wayfarers! I’m very jealous one of you guys will soon own them. Until then, I will stare at them from afar.)

*You guys know how open I am about disclosure on my blog, what I accept c/o from a company, my “non affiliate links” policy and so on. Just so you know, in exchange for promoting this awesome interactive video and hosting the giveaway for you guys, I did receive products similar to what you see in these photos. As always, even if I receive an item courtesy of a shop, all thoughts, opinions and every written post is purely mine.

If you have questions or concerns about my disclosure policy, how I work with brands, etc. please feel free to leave a comment below or send me an email. I’m always happy to answer any questions.

How to organize your tights

I’ve been asked a few times how I store my tights, where I get them and how to take care of them. So I’ve decided it’s time to do a how-to post all about tights!

I keep my tights in a plastic storage drawer from Target.
How to organize your tights12

Sadly, the drawer usually looks like this:
How to organize your tights11

I know. “Way to go, Suze! Awesome organizational skills.” Whatever. At least I can show you how I TRY to keep them.
I’d like them to be organized more like this (AKA- this is my ideal when organizing this drawer):
How to organize your tights9

See? Much easier to find what I want. I try to keep them organized by colored/neutral (black/white) and printed/textured. I tend to keep them rolled or folded, then shoved sideways next to one another.

I have a slightly unusual process for keeping them free of rips/tears/runs.
My tights are the very last thing I put on (minus shoes) before I leave for the day. And immediately after I take my photos, they come off. I do not sit around my apartment in my tights. I treat them like they will break if I leave them on too long. I probably sound crazy, but it works! Also, if you’re willing/able to purchase nicer tights, they tend to last longer (but we’ll discuss that in a little bit).

I hand-wash my tights in my bathtub.
Sorry, no photos of this, but this is how I do it. My tights do not EVER go into the washing machine. I wear them at least twice before I wash them, sometimes three times, but who’s counting? When I wash them, I use lukewarm water and gentle detergent, like Woolite. To dry them, I lay them on a clean towel (after wringing out as much water as possible). I never, NEVER hang my tights. I feel like it stretches them out, and I prefer to keep the fibers as intact as I can.

I have an array of brands in my drawer:
How to organize your tights9

The majority of my tights are from We Love Colors, Target or Marshalls (Hue, DKNY, Anne Klein, Betsey Johnson, etc).
Tights from Target cost $5-10, depending on the style. Tights from Marshalls cost about the same, maybe a little more. Tights from We Love Colors are about $13, and tights from Forever 21 are about $5-8.

If you pay a little more, they will [probably] last longer.
I own tights that cost as little as $2.50 and as much as $25, so I’m pretty sure I’m [nearly] an expert. If you’re willing to pay a little more, they’re better made and will last longer. Target tights might look nice and provide that pop of color you’re looking for, but I find that they aren’t constructed as well as other brands. That being said, I also think my American Apparel tights (they cost $25 – free with a Groupon) are VERY fragile. I would NEVER have purchased them if I didn’t have a Groupon.

My favorites are DKNY and We Love Colors. I only own two pairs of DKNY tights, but I find them to be thick enough to keep me warm, and they don’t stretch out like Forever 21 tights do. We Love Colors are an obvious love of mine (since you can tell I own so many!). They’re fun colors and also thick enough to keep me warm on a cold day. I have only ruined ONE pair of We Love Colors tights, but that is because my cat decided to attack them…

There are many ways to organize your tights.
Kendi shows how she uses an Ikea drawer organizer for her tights. Linley did a DIY using toilet paper tubes and pretty paper to help your drawer stay very organized!
These options work really well for Kendi and Linley, but as you can tell from the photos above, I need lots of room for my tights! You really need to find a system that works for you, your collection and your dressing habits.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask below! (I’ll save you guys from asking the most important, no, I have no idea how much I’ve spent on tights over the years and I’m really nervous about adding it all up. I’m OK with not knowing!)

10 for 10 – day one

We Love Colors and I have partnered up to bring you 10 colors in 10 days. For the next 10 days I’ll be wearing, styling and showcasing different We Love Colors tights. At the end of the challenge, you’ll have a chance to win your favorite pair from the challenge!

I have 11 pairs of tights to choose from, ranging in colors from dark and muted, to crazy and tie-dyed! My options are: maroon, scarlet red, gold, maize, olive-green, navy, orchid pink, lilac, black/mint green jagged stripes, white/scout green stripes and (not pictured) splash tights.

I decided to start things off with a bang and wear the tie-dye tights first. I have to admit, these are a bit wild, even for color-loving ME!

See? Crazy bright! You can also see the sneakers I wear in the snow, and the giant pile of mail in these photos. Joe and I haven’t been home too much lately, so the mail is just piling up! Not to mention the packages I’ve been receiving (I need to stop shopping…).

Check back tomorrow for the next way to wear some awesome We Love Colors tights! And, I’ll have a post going up soon about where I get my tights and how I take care of them, per Ella B‘s request.

So. Those last two photos. They’re awesome, right? The first one, I was being a ham. The second one, well, that is me reacting to the wind’s attempt at blowing up my skirt. Apparently I make the same face in either situation. Nice to know.

Confession? I thought the white stripe in my shirt was actually yellow. It wasn’t until I was dressed, at work and eating lunch that I noticed it was white. Oops.

Oh, and if you follow me on twitter, you know that I was in yet ANOTHER car accident on Saturday, with my friend Emily. Thankfully, I wasn’t at fault (yet again) but I still have to take my car to get fixed. It’s not nearly as bad as last time, costing only $1300 (DAYUM!). When I called Joe (and my mom) to tell them both what happened, they laughed! This is the 4th time I’ve been rear-ended/ hit the side of my car in THREE YEARS. I’m beginning to think I’m cursed. Or maybe I just drive an invisible car. I think I might secretly be Wonder Woman but with a car instead of a jet (yes, I am a comic book dork).

PS- Happy birthday Sonia! 🙂

I haven’t worn this skirt or top on the blog since March, so I figured they were due another shot. Joe has dubbed this top my “watchtower top” and began singing Jimi Hendrix to me. It was an interesting Tuesday morning, to say the least.
No one seemed to think my clock/stripe/floral outfit was weird at work. Although having to break into my coworker’s office may have taken away some of the attention (heh). (She accidentally locked her keys in her office; the only other copy was with a person across the state who won’t be back until Monday.)

When I was at work, one of the ladies asked, off hand, “how many closet full of clothes” I owned.

When I told her I had one closet that I shared with my husband, she looked shocked. I felt slightly uncomfortable. I make probably half of her salary, purchase nice clothes when I can, shop thrifty and try to save my money, yet here she is assuming I have TONS of clothes. I suppose I should take it as a compliment, since it highlights how will I mix up everything, yet all I could think about was “why do people think I have so much clothes?!”

Maybe others don’t pay as much attention to my clothing as I do, especially if they don’t see me all the time. I rewear everything I own in different ways. I never wear an outfit the same way twice, because that’s apparently how I live my life.

Maybe I’m creating a mountain out of a molehill. How about it, readers? Have you had someone ask you about your closet space and the amount of clothing you own? What’d you say? What would you say now if someone asked?

Suze in wonderland

Pretending to be Alice
A little too "alice"

Dress: Rodarte for Target
Tights: H&M
Shoes: Spring
Earrings: Modcloth

If you’ve ever attempted to chase down a white rabbit in search of the entrance to Wonderland you know how tired I feel. And how truly crazy I am.

This was supposed to be my official Easter outfit, but instead, I wore this. Probably a better idea. I would’ve been chasing chocolate bunnies all day asking if they knew the time.

I bought this dress mostly because it was blue, and I wanted a blue dress. If only I had paid attention to the length. It’s REALLY short! I’m probably going to make a petticoat to go under it so I could potentially wear it without flashing my neighbors accidentally. Or on purpose. It depends who’s lookin.

While I was wearing this dress, I got into a discussion about skirt length, which I know I’ve talked about before. Unless you’re in middle school, it doesn’t matter if the skirt is past your fingertips. I’m not a big fan of short skirts. Some people can pull them off, but me and my mammoth thighs prefer a little more camouflage than most skinny little bitches ladies.

I think my cough medicine is kicking in.

Spring in my step

Oh, sometimes my jokes get to me. Haha.

Spring in my step!

Cardigan: Borrowed from Cher
Top: Forever 21
Skirt: Vintage, thrifted
Tights: Marshalls?
Shoes: Spring
Necklace: Gift from my hubby years ago!
Earrings: Aldo

I was pretty proud of my creativity with this outfit. I really wanted to wear this skirt one last time before it gets too warm, since I bought it halfway through the winter at a thrift store and didn’t wear it for a month after I bought it.

I’m kind of in love with this top. It’s from F21, and only cost about $10, but I really love how it looks and I think it would look awesome with a pair of jeans (or my pink shorts, if I can ever find those stupid lil buggers…).

These shoes don’t get worn too often, and with good reason! They’re a little tight. But they’re so cute! I may need to pass them along to someone with smaller feet than me. Or I’ll just keep wearing them and shoving my feet into them 🙂

Oh, and that last picture? It has nothing to do with my post, except that I thought it was cool, and it was taken a few seconds after Loafy clawed my legs. Sad.

Tights: Hue
Shoes: Charlotte Russe

I had to RUSH through these photos. I was at H&M, then rushed to bowling. I don’t feel very cute in this outfit, even though I had a few compliment through the day. I with the tunic was either longer, so it could be a dress, or shorter. I feel like it stops at an odd place on my body.

Check out my review of the H&M Garden Collection (well, what I could try on!) and then check out Cher (from Shoe-a-day) and my giveaway!

And, as always, have an awesome weekend! I’ll be back a little later with a sneak peek of the leaked Zac Posen for Target collaboration (woo hoo!) and more fun stuff.

Thank you for choosing Miss Vinyl Ahoy as a stop on your blog reader… lol.

Dress: Anthropologie via Buffalo Exchange
Cardigan: H&M
Tights: Love-colour love-tights
Shoes: Target
Necklace: Modcloth

I really wanted to wear this dress, but I didn’t want to wear it with red tights (too much red!) so I decided to mix it all up. I think it ended up looking pretty good. The only problem? The skirt hikes WAAAAY up when I sit down… oops. I need a knit skirt to wear under it so when I sit, you don’t see any of my lady parts.

I wore the same shoes as yesterday, mostly because they matched and I didn’t really care 🙂

And, I love that I own two dresses from Anthropologie, but only paid $60 for both of them. Man, do I love getting good deals! 🙂

Oh, and it’s now day three of problems with AT&T Uverse… I’m getting really upset. If they don’t show up today (they didn’t even show up yesterday to fix it), I’m totally cancelling with them and they’ll be refunding ALL my money. Stupid Uverse. It better work, and it better be right. They don’t want to see my fashion-y butt get mad on St. Patrick’s Day.

Spring has SPRUNG!

First, I want to thank everyone that read and commented on my post yesterday, “For the argument of fashion.” I really enjoyed reading everyone’s opinion and I’m glad we all have similar ideas of what fashion is to us. And now, onto my outfit! (Haha).

Sweater: Forever21
Skirt: Tulle
Tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Target
Earrings: Modcloth
Hat: Vintage Underground

My usual photo spot was full of laundry, because we were getting different cable installed yesterday (newsflash- DOESN’T WORK YET!) so I posed in front of the bookshelf I broke, oops!
And, I’ll be honest, I didn’t wear the hat to work. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized how great it looked with the rest of my outfit.

Oh well. There’s always next time! I started cleaning the extra room out and realized there might not be enough room in there, so I will have to do some finagling to see what I can move around.

My outfit wasn’t super thought out- I just liked the tights, wanted to wear the skirt and grabbed the top- and it all worked! Yay!! I ended up wearing this outfit for the entire day- to go to the store in, to cook in, even to move furniture in (maybe that wasn’t well thought out…)

I really hope the cable’s fixed when I get home, because what is the point of a DVR if it’s not hooked up to anything? Oh well.
